Vision
©2007, Jonathan Tercero The West Basin in the Galisteo Basin Preserve anchors the western boundary of the 12,800-acre Preserve—a nationally significant conservation initiative spearheaded by Commonweal Conservancy. The West Basin features five spectacular equestrian homesteads that range in size from 125 to 265 acres. Each homestead offers residents an extraordinary quality of privacy and breathtaking views to the surrounding mountains. All parcels permit horses and each lot is linked via a private trail system to 4,000 acres of adjoining public land. The Galisteo Basin is an area of fragile and ecologically significant land and water resources, internationally celebrated for its exceptional scenic, cultural, and wildlife habitat values. Sales of the West Basin homesteads—together with home sites in the Galisteo Basin Preserve's Southern Crescent, New Moon Overlook, and the proposed Village—will underwrite permanent protection of more than 12,000 acres of the Preserve as publicly accessible open space. In addition, these property sales will support habitat restoration within the Preserve's primary watershed and grassland areas. To ensure permanent preservation of the West Basin's natural and cultural resources, each homestead parcel will be overlaid with a conservation easement—guaranteeing that more than 95 percent of the West Basin property will be protected for future generations. As the only private land owners in a seven-square-mile area, West Basin community members serve as land stewards for some of the Galisteo Basin's most significant cultural, historic, and ecological resources. |
